Who are we?

Born out of a 10-year research project with Lancaster University’s linguistic and cyber security departments, Relative Insight originally designed its technology to support the UK government identify paedophiles masquerading as children online - heavy but important work!

Our technology is based on comparison - so if you take a group of 13-year olds talking online, you'll see that the language they use is very similar. If you compare that to how a 40-year-old adult man talks, you'll notice very specific but subtle differences.

So today, we apply the same methods of language comparison to uncover crucial and unexpected differences in the way people talk. This then helps organisations inform new strategies to interact and communicate more effectively with their audiences.



What does the role involve?

Relative Insight are looking for security engineer to work within our DevOps function. We are currently experiencing rapid growth and so have increasing security demands from our customers.  You will work alongside our current highly talented engineering team to raise our security standards and satisfy our customer’s needs. You will be responsible for overseeing the security of our cloud infrastructure, managing monitoring and alerts for potential security breaches and suggesting changes to improve our overall security culture.



Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that our systems are secure and robust against external threats
  • Develop security policies to ensure all systems follow relevant security standards
  • Implement appropriate monitoring and alerting strategies to quickly identify any unusual activity or potential security breach
  • Investigate any security breaches and suggest appropriate remedies
  • Organise vulnerability and penetration testing
  • Suggest security best practices to ensure a Secure Coding practice amongst our software developers


Requirements

  • Experience of securing modern Cloud Platforms (particularly AWS)
  • Knowledge of information security concepts, emerging IT security trends, and data protection requirements
  • In depth understanding of the methods of security attacks and how these can be detected
  • Ability to assess and analyse a wide range information to draw conclusions on how to improve the security of our systems
  • Knowledge of security monitoring, prevention and control systems
  • Hands-on experience of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion protection systems, authentication systems, log management, content filtering, etc.
  • Problem solving attitude
  • A desire for continuous improvement


Nice to have

  • Recognised security related professional certification (e.g. CISSP, CISM, CEH, CompTIA Security+, DSOE)
  • Experience with SaaS solutions
  • AWS certification
